Library services coming to Prosperity Village

Post provided by the PVAA Library Committee

You may have discovered the joys of the University City library, or visited the freshly refurbished North County Regional Library in Huntersville to find books, movies, computers, and maker spaces. Guess what? Now there are library services that are even closer to Prosperity Village!

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library Outreach Services group has partnered with the Mallard Creek Recreation Center to provide space for the following programs:

Programs

For 2 to 6 year olds

Weekly story times will be open to the public on Thursdays at 10am – 10:45am from January 16 to June 11.

Up to 40 people (including parents) can attend. Space is limited so pre-registration is required. Call 980-314-1121 or go online at www.parkandrec.com or use eparks.

The first session will be on Thursday, January 16.

For teens

Monthly activities will be held on Thursdays at 3pm. This includes a homeschooled group but will have space for others. Activities will be determined by the teens, but the Library can support a book club, tech activities, homework help, cooking, etc.

For seniors

A session will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month prior to the Senior Nutrition lunch. Attendees will decide on subjects e.g. cooking, book talks and virtual travels are favorite topics in other locations.

For adults in general

There will be a book club. The library has multiple book club kits with 10 copies of the book included. The club members will decide on the timing of the meetings (afternoon or evening) and select books to read.

Coming soon…a bookmobile!

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is planning to launch a bookmobile in 2020. The PVAA library committee is in discussions with the Library to plan regular bookmobile visit dates at The Green at Prosperity Village, possibly beginning in the summer. When we know more, we will let you know. In the meantime, take this survey to help shape the services the bookmobile will provide: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020Janmonthlyemail

Little Free Libraries

Also, there are multiple Little Free Libraries in the Prosperity Village area. These free lending libraries ask you to take a book and leave a book. They can be found:

· In Highland Creek, in Prosperity Park near the playground

· At the Mallard Creek Soccer Fields in the playground

· At Clarke Creek Nature Preserve in the playground

Online Services

Your local library supports many online services as well. A few of them are listed below and your local librarians can help you find others:

· Hoopla, for borrowing e-Books – look in the standard CMLibrary catalog to find this option https://www.cmlibrary.org/resource/hoopla

· Kanopy, for free access to six classic or current movies per month – sign up with your library card number and PIN https://www.kanopy.com

We may not have a local library in Prosperity Village yet, but you can still make use of many library services. If you’d like to participate on the library committee, please send us a note at prosperityvillagenc@gmail.com.
